For parks in Dallas, White Rock Lake offers a long shoreline trail, Klyde Warren Park puts green space in the downtown core, and the Dallas Arboretum has garden paths in East Dallas. Together, they make three distinct options for a day outdoors, from a lake loop to a garden visit.

  • White Rock Lake: a city lake about 5 miles northeast of downtown.
  • Klyde Warren Park: a 5.4-acre green space linking Uptown, the Arts District and downtown.
  • Dallas Arboretum: a 66-acre garden destination in East Dallas.

White Rock Lake for a longer outing

White Rock Lake is the choice for a longer outing, with a shoreline loop trail and several places to stop along the way. The lake is a 1,015-acre city lake northeast of downtown Dallas. Its reservoir formed when White Rock Creek was dammed in 1910–1911, and it opened as a city park in 1929.

The White Rock Lake Park Loop Trail runs 9.4 miles along the shoreline and connects with parking areas, playgrounds, Mockingbird Point Dog Park and the White Rock Creek Greenbelt Trail. You can plan a shorter visit around one section or make the loop the focus of your outing.

Other park features include a bird-watching area, wetland, picnic areas, piers, boat ramps and a kayak concession. The White Rock Lake Museum and Bath House Cultural Center add cultural stops to the lakeside setting. Dallas Parks’ interactive map shows trails, parking lots, bathrooms and water fountains, which can help you plan where to start.

Dallas Parks gives White Rock Lake Park’s daily hours as 6 a.m.–11 p.m. Check the official site before you go, as hours and other practical details can change.

Klyde Warren Park for a downtown break

Klyde Warren Park for a downtown break

Klyde Warren Park is a compact green space between Uptown and downtown Dallas, with the Arts District also connected through the park. It covers 5.4 acres above a recessed eight-lane freeway, making it a different kind of urban park from the open shoreline at White Rock Lake.

The address is 2012 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75201. Its central position makes it a natural stop to pair with time in the Arts District or a one-day Dallas downtown route. If you plan to drive, check the park’s official parking information before setting out; parking arrangements and prices are subject to change.
